Bet
If this came out today most people wouldn’t give it a second listen lol. Just like the Matrix, it has every action movie cliche that exists but it did it before most of em were cliches
Or maybe not, idfk

i've listened to this album at least 15 times and it has grown off me a bit from my initial listen many years ago, but still a landmark album

wow butt pretty sure i've heard people say that about the beatles before too. they were super smart.

Right and if someone made music like the Beatles today it would be derivative.
Regardless, the point is I think this is perfectly pleasant but not seeing what makes it special at all
Ok time to go listen to papa roach bye

"Just like the Matrix, it has every action movie cliche that exists but it did it before most of em were cliches"
this is really dumb to me. the only reason this might be accused of being cliche today is because of how influential and impactful it was at the time of its release. so it would be hypothetically cliche now because of trends that it set? lol

The Matrix is badass AF bro it invented some of those cliches (even if it stole some also)

Been jamming this alb (my dig) where the album is based around found recordings of the dudes dead schizophrenic moms a capella singing and it kind of reminds me of a more janky burial alb

Gotta be hard to sing acapella while being dead and having schizophrenia

that's exactly the point I'm trying to make! My original question was simply, is this considered to be so incredible because it was original 13 years ago. Did it "invent" some of these cliches
|

"the matrix was a horrible example that movie aged really well"
in some ways yeah but the fight sequences in particular are cheesy as fuck. especially because of the stock royalty free action music during those scenes. plot and acting, mostly fantastic yeah

matrix sucks and aged terribly ftr

obviously any album that did something innovative and proceeded to become emulated becomes less original sounding over time without any context. this whole argument seems like a reductive and weirdly selective way to look at music and i'm not quite sure what you're insinuating anyways. is None So Vile any less incredible now that its had 20+ years of emulators?
