I know I know I need to get on it. Just haven't really been in a Neurosis mood lately, and when I am, im always content just coming back to one of those three. I'll get to the rest sooner or later.

@Muppelope - same... I only have this, TSIB & ToG but still just enjoying coming back to the ones I have. I'll get round to it, eventually.

Finally getting around to spinning the vinyl reissues I bought. This sounds great, especially the vocals. A real slow burner but powerful.

I finally got my ratings in for Souls at Zero through The Eye of Every Storm. Still need to get to the rest, but I think I found my sweet spot with these guys. This is my only 5 for them as of now but it rules hard.

I wasn't too impressed with Souls at Zero and kinda got turned off by TEOES, are the albums bookeneding those worth checking if that's the case?

Definitely check Given dude, excellent album.

Are the vocals a lot like TEOES? Because that was my main complaint, but they seem to switch it up enough between albums that they might work better for me in a different setting.

Nice that you 5 this one db, it's my fave along with TOG.

Yeah, man. Those two are my favorites. I can imagine I'll appreciate TSIB more as time goes on.

Cool, I'm hoping I enjoy them more. I'll find out sooner than later. Fuck, I wish I could make it to see these guys with Converge this summer.

They seem weaker and don't mix nearly as well with the music, imo. Honestly, I feel like they progressed logically considering the changes from album to album up to this point but didn't execute on nearly as well. I only heard it a couple times and just wasn't into it, but I don't think it's necessarily bad.

by this record's era, the guitarists were releasing and working on their solo records that in part influenced the direction of this and TEOES onward. so instead of throat-searing yells they chilled in the vox department for the sake of both the solo and neurosis material's future, and basically mastered their version of post-metal.

That's fair and makes sense. I know nothing about what they had going on around this time. I just feel like that style of vocals works better on every track here than they do on TEOES. It seemed to me like the toned EVERYHING down on that album. Maybe I just need to go into it next time with fresh outlook.

considering TEOES is their lightest record, i think it would make sense that the vocals are also at their softest.
