I'm not sorry for being nearly Pleb level fanboy for this band, I love all their records. Heritage is probably just as good as this tbh

"The main reason why this is better than all of Opeth's other soft releases is that it still sounds like Opeth, not like Ã…kerfeldt singing '70s prog karaoke."

Holy shit, this times a thousand.

And their new stuff kinda blows.

This might sound like Opeth but that doesn't mean it's all that good.

At least it's not him just ripping off better prog rock bands.

There's moments on here that are just as much ripped off from 'better prog bands' as on Heritage though. There's a lot of Camel influence here.

Perhaps it has more of that trademark Opeth sound mixed in but that doesn't make it better when it's this bland and uninteresting.

IDK, I agree with DSOL, this album still sounds very Opethian. It's got that gloomy atmosphere, with no goofy riffs like the new stuff.

EDIT: "Perhaps it has more of that trademark Opeth sound" it totally does, which is why I prefer it. It sounds like them, not some other band.

yeah but the songs are more cohesive here than on anything they've done in the last 10 years

and there's a ton of camel influence in their music in general

@Jamie- Yeah, I get that man. I just think that's a major reason why I like it more than their newer stuff - I mean this isn't anywhere near the top of my favorite Opeth albums or anything, Every other album pre-Watershed demolishes this imo

Agree. This was an ok experiment, but it should be obvious now that m/ Opeth is best.
