Or the "bro...everything is nature" realization that every freshman in college goes through

yeah in regards to the last page, the whole 'philosophy graduates work at burger king'/are poor/starve thing isnt true. it might have been true once, i dont know but it certainly isnt anymore
sure, philosophy graduates dont earn as much engineering, business or computer science graduates. but its a very versatile degree, you can go into any sort of editing, publishing, proofreading, (basically anything that requires close attentiont to language)
law (quite a lot of philosophy undergraduates go on to do law postgrad and become solicitors or paralegals of some sort)
teaching (self explanatory)
computer science (any grounding in analytic logic and especially if you have learned a bit of a logic language, the jump to programming really isnt that big, again lots of phil grads do a postgrad in computer sci)
really quite a lot of management positions if you can persuade interviewers that you have the ability to 'big picture/small picture' problems/projects
interviewers are a big problem unfortunately. tend to come up against people who think philosophy is some wishy washy bullshit, or people who think youre really smart for studying it (if only they knew how little my skills add up to lol)

but yeah generally i think there a phil degree is just as valuable as you make it through confidence/bullshitting/making clear to potential employers how it translates to real life skills

Rofl, you know, there is this classic chess player called Paul Morphy who said something of the sort when talking about chess: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentleman. The ability to play chess well is the sign of a wasted life.”

We all love Spinoza. God and Nature are obv two names for the same reality.

honestly i barely know anything about him. that whole era of philosophy is a bit ewwww yuck yuck to me, and im only really familiar with a brief overview from a philosophy module i had to take which was a crash course on all the big names of the modern period
do you like spinoza ryus?

You would like him Mort..

i really doubt id be interested in his metaphysics but im willing to try
i was until about a year ago studying plato in my spare time, slowly going through all the dialogues while making notes and doing secondary reading (journal articles mainly, might throw in a book on plato at some point). But then life got in the way and i havent gone back to it yet.
Once im done with that i think i might read the stoics, pretty big area of philosophy im not acquainted with in the slightest
