I wish that they did the chorus one more time, because it really is beautiful, but other than that yeah amazing song and probably my favorite here behind reincarnated.
“If this world was mine I’d take your dreams and make em multiply
If this world was mine I’d take your enemies in front of god.”
I mean yeah, perfectly describes being in love.
And yes the harmonies are fucking amazing. Kendrick’s more monotone delivery mixed with SZA just seemingly pulling some of the prettiest vocal melodies from the ether, it’s just perfect and legit one of my favorite Kendrick tracks, Gloria is great too
Really makes me wanna listen to some SZA and I’ve maybe heard 5 Kendrick-less songs lol

And yeah I’d say it can’t hold a candle to his best work but when his best work is probably 2 top 20 rap album oat (top 10 for me if I’m being real) then I mean, yeah 4.5 still lol

Imo there are like infinity albums better than this across all of hip hop, from a whole host of other rappers who aren't even necessarily as talented. Don't get me wrong, it's still really cool. But only stands out among the most popular current rappers that never had much substance to begin with, which is really a low bar for Kendrick, though it suffices for him to coast on to maintain his hyper relevance. This doesn't have the musical or thematic cohesion, nor the artistic or lyrical depth of many of his or hip hop at large's best records. You could say it's personal, but all of his records do that, even the more mid ones.

It's absolutely musically cohesive fuck you mean lol. This is a contemporary west coast album through and through theres not a beat on here that sounds out of place.

man at the garden is my least favorite on here ya
dodger blue's vibe is amazing, wish it was like a minute longer.
i think this album is quality but the bar for kendrick is so high that this being a good-to-great hip hop album is not enough for some people and dissenters are quick to be like "dude there are like six trillion better records than this" like yeah this isn't tpab or low end theory but lets pump the breaks a bit and meet in the middle with a "yeah this is good but not historically so"

This album has literally no riffs

While I do think this record is pretty good, I do feel I more enjoy it in the context of Kendrick's career rather than on a musical level. That said, there are a handful of slaps and I'm happy I have not been afflicted w the overplayedness of this album. Can't say the same about Not Like Us tho

Pretty much how I feel about it. I don’t feel like I need another hours long Morale style project, I’m totally cool with him taking a victory lap filled with bangers after the Drake beef
It’s just a really damn good victory lap and probably my favorite behind GKMC and TPAB

It's crazy how he had not only the biggest diss song ever but beat Drake at his own game w a mainstream leaning album. Pretty impressive within a year's time

yeah for better or worse i'm def happy to see his career get a second wind in a mainstream sense. i def remember discussions on here pre-beef questioning if the youngins still care about kendrick (which after big steppers, wasn't exactly an invalid feeling)
