Orchid definitely feels very amateurish in the sense of a young band figuring things out. It comes across as more honest and organic than the extremely sterile Deliverance and so that might be the only metal-era Opeth album it's better than. Even then, the actual quality of musicianship and songwriting is better on deliverance (which is redeemed partially by the recent remaster). Its a far cry from BWP/SL/MAYH/GR and Morningrise is also much stronger and more fully conceived.
