Why do you hate Pale Iris so much bubs? It's a great track. I was iffy on it with the single mix but for some reason the album version just hits

so i think that pale iris is an instrumentally pretty cool track but its problem is it has the blandest vocal writing ive ever heard from jesse in an erra song. he's doing the whole currents, color decay generic ass "singing just the first three notes of the scale the whole hook", which are inherently the most stable tones in the scale, and that is bubs kryptonite lol that is my weakness. jesse doubles down hard on that in this song and treads like the exact same ground in each section. cure as a whole has gotten me to step a bit outside of my biases of thinking of this band mainly through the hook, but it's just a song that personally gives me very very little to work with
i am genuinely happy that no one seems as bothered by it as me though lol

might as well just review the one new bubs

It's not one of Jesse's strongest tracks but I don't really hear anything wrong with it. JT kinda steals the show for me on that one. Plus the grooves get me amped and it's probably the heaviest track next to Crawl

yeah ill admit that if jesse isn't as central to this band for you as he is for me there's nothing else really wrong with it, so it's more just deeply misaligned with myself than actually bad. it's just very rare that i don't like an erra song lol. i don't really think the riffs are anything special either though on that one

He's hit or miss for me these days. I like that he toned down his range for Cure tbh, the Impulse and Augment hooks are obviously legendary but my boy needed to rest his voice after singing that high for so long lol

this album has my favorite vocal writing i've ever heard in my life, and tbh it always has. i can't explain it it's just how my brain works lol, but it's also set a pretty impossible standard for him to live up to in my mind. i think part of why pale iris had me so nervous was realizing the sanctity of that, and the fear that him sanding that down would lose what made erra special for me, but every other song i can tell came from his pen, and the shift in register is really refreshing for them imo
"might as well just review the one new bubs" when i am not on acid, maybe

I will never understand why the sputbros don’t like drift lol. It’s one of their best to me even with its flaws. It doesn’t have to be anyone’s favorite obviously but I don’t know why people put it with Neon as among their worst

New one is about the same as drift for me in the B+ area

production and vocals mostly. i think jt's midrange is fine but when it's all he's doing it's pretty tiresome. it's not his fault though it's jesses *shakes fist*
that and i feel like it was too drastic a shift too soon tbh. i can definitely see why it was an alienating release upon initial impact. i really like drift though. i've always been kinda able to see it as its own cool lil deviation in their discog. the hypnotist will always be one of my favorite erra songs

Yeah drift needs a remaster quite sorely

Drift sounds fine. Neon is the one that badly needs a remaster

Neon with beefier production would make people realize that album is actually sick.
Also here to say I dig Pale Iris a lot. It does feel a little jarring so late in the tracklist though because I’ve heard it so goddamn much already

[2] Ghost of Nothing, Expiate, and Unify are among their best songs and a remaster for them would be huge. Neon got the short end of the stick and it's a shame cause most of the songs are awesome and it has the best album cover, but man was it butchered on the mixing side of things. Just goes to show how important production is to an album's particular "style"
It did have a couple really boring songs too tho

Totally. I like every single song on Neon, but I don’t think the highs are as high as this record. And the heavy parts really don’t hit as hard because of the production which is a shame.
I will say JT has only gotten better since then. Enjoying his contributions much more on their latest 2 which has been fun
