My morning's entertainment is watching Tool fans on that Fantano vid explaining why he's wrong and just doesn't get it. Some gold opinions coming out along the lines of 'they are just too sophisticated and complex for him' and 'well of course you'd give this a 4 if you give that verse-chorus bullshit Taylor swift album a 6'

Fear Innocuous - album is harmless but unmemorable

'Production is bone dry here, especially the toms suffer from it.'
yasss I noticed it too. It's definitely not an ugly sounding album by a mile, but it's just not as gorgeously produced as most Tool albums

This album has the best "interludes" of any tool album.
anyone that complained about 10k having too many interludes needs to listen to this.

I judge albums by what the production sounds like in the car and this sounds like garbage

I think the interludes here are very pointless, definitely don't serve the album well.
Removing them actually makes the album flow better.

They're usually making the albums feel less cohesive to me. They ruined the flow on Aenima for instance.

"I think the interludes here are very pointless, definitely don't serve the album well.

it's funny, I burned this onto a CD for the car and i couldn't get the whole thing on one CD, so I cut out all the interludes and the album does actually flow better for it.
That said, I feel they don't deter the overall album from being anything short of exceptional, only add to the atmosphere.

I like the sonic diversity, yet to make up my mind if it improves the composition with or without. None of them are as good as say Eon Blue Apocalypse or Die Eier von Satan

Its just odd how the metal comunity gets divided with Tool. With all the hype and high expectations, its easy to get a bit underwhelmed (even for some band's fans) Though its a hard statement to put the breaks and say: "this ain't that good", I think its a mistake to say this is repetitive or dull. Sure, they could go for those 6 minute dynamic rock hooked bangers they're known for...Instead they did this almost dreamy like sort of band's work retrospective, that actually demands a close listen. Drums are amazing from one of the best drummers of all time. When you listen to this repetitevely, focusing on details, you see that there is absolutely no repetition riff to riff, section to section, always subtely changing the riff itself, tempo shifting, drumming, electronics, vocal layers etc...its damn big and with countless replay value, an ode against immediacy, and its here for the long run. They are not (and never were) bad ass metal, and I always noticed the core of metal oldschoolers (along with some tourists) a bit skeptic towards Tool. Its all about opening, trust and detail attention.
