Last minute of tellin lies is the best bit on this whole record.

yelling the words back to the stage in a crowd of other people doing the same and constantly being forced to hump the dude in front of me while being humped from behind by another dude's sweaty balls was one of the best feelings in the world.

this is alright is their other stuff also boring-ish pop punk?

this is their jukebox album. On the Impossible Past's songwriting is more interesting imo.

yeah Impossible Past destroys this. it's pretty surprising to me that so many people consider this their best
|
| |
impossible past does not destroy this lol. Past might have more immediately noticeable song writing, but this has consistency, flow, perfect mixing and attention to detail on each musical layer. Plus they just learned how to use their voices in the songs for maximum effect on this record, Greg Barnett’s voice throughout this album fucking slays

"Past might have more immediately noticeable song writing"
Uhh, no. This has more basic song structures and guitar work than any of their other albums. Its easily their catchiest and poppiest. This is their most immediate album, OTIP is a bit of a grower.

They no longer have that trade-off factor that they had on OTIP, that went away on Rented World. OTIP was still using vox to maximum potential.
Also the production here is nice, and maybe its the best fit for their jukebox album, but i cant help but wonder if it would have sounded better if it wasnt this clean and shiny.

greg is way better than tom but itd be interesting if they pulled an oh calcutta and did an album of all dual vox

I, on the other hand, am not sure why lots of people consider OTIP to be miles ahead of this. I get it, the nostalgia factor and it's more "raw" which makes it more "punk", I get it. But the song writing here, the vocals, flow, lyrics, pacing, it's all god damn impeccable. It's catchy without sacrificing quality. Tellin Lies, Your Wild Years, and After the Party are top 10 Menz tracks

agreed hard buttt boy

By more immediate songwriting I mean it’s more obvious that it’s more complex per se, this one would appear more basic on an immediate take but shows off more layers with further listens. By using vocals to max potential I mean within the mix, it really feels like on this album Greg has control over his voice and what it can do, while on Impossible it’s untethered

"on Impossible it’s untethered"
thats part of what i liked about that album though. it wasnt quite so polished.

The MENzingers

I find they do well with a polished sound, but I definitely feel the appeal behind unpolished for them too

welp, i guess we're just looking for different things in this band. this is just nitpicking though, i still love this.
