I'm not having that.
Nirvana were a push against everything and gathered together the millions of kids who had felt incompatible with metal or the dinosaur bands of yesteryear. They had finally found something they could identify with. 5yrs earlier or later wouldn't have made a difference.

Nirvana just had it, spoke directly to a generation, impossible to fake or try and reproduce that certain elusive quality.

Exactly doof dude.
Exuded the natural confusion, anger and everything else that everybody else has.
You just don't get that if your a 5 piece art 'collective' from Brooklyn tinkling on a xylophone in some loft house conversion.

kurt's song writing always came across as unfussed and natural, again you look at live footage and they just had this natural chemistry, they weren't rewriting the nature of music or anything like that but they were perfectly channeling something...too much conscious experimentation and overthinking what they were doing would have probably snuffed their whole thing
Experimentation in and of itself is completely worthless, otherwise you end up with anti-Nirvanas like Thank You Scientist who are hideously cerebral and totally unlistenable to anyone with a pair of honest to God testicles. All they are channeling is their chin stroking muso chop wankery

boo to you guys, I get it, everybody loves Nirvana, IMO they were a flash in the pan, the best thing they did was break up most hair bands, I liked the other bands of the era better, soundgarden, nin, pumpkins, RHCP, i am proud to say I never owned a copy of nevermind, I just thought there was something phony about them

I mean they're good, but if Kurt hadn't died, I really doubt they'd been held nearly as high as they are today

"totally unlistenable to anyone with a pair of honest to God testicles" lol Time to dial it back. Also, this album is like "Nirvana Goes Noise Rock" which I enjoy a lot. Anybody saw Montage of Heck?

It's raw innit. Kurt was a bellend, Courtney a complete slag

I feel bad for Kurt and his bad decision making. Courtney is pretty much like an endless car crash.
Edit: Ever had Baileys from a shoe?

Montage was a bit 'don't meet your heroes' - not sure I needed to 'get to know' Kurt
He was a songwriting genius though
Nirvana would have probably have split if Kurt hadn't offed himself, sure of it. Their legend was always assured. Radiohead still being around hasn't harmed their rep any

It really focused heavily on the negative parts of his life. There's plenty of evidence that he was a good guy, but he fucked up a lot like lots of musicians. I know plenty of guys from my hometown like that. You don't dislike them, you just wish they'd do better. Courtney is from a whole different cloth though. She's a selfish black hole of a person that doesn't care about anything but herself. Purely a negative influence.
That said I fuck with Hole's first record. Also, if one good thing came out of it all, Burn the Rain from the Home Recordings sounded like it would've been great song.
