yeah Anti-Mother really suffered from that bandwagon hate, it's pretty much the album that developed the Norma Jean sound they built on with the three albums after. some hard jams on there
Polar Similar is just the Meridional structure applied to Wrongdoers music. it's fine and there's nothing particularly wrong with it but it's just retreading ground those albums did better, Wrongdoers especially slams it

O shit true

I guess if doing the same thing with nothing significant to add on aside from weaker guitarwork sounds like a hell of a time to you then Polar Similar would be more interesting than this.

@Rowan hell yea I love The Anti-Mother. It’s def got a more old-school post-hardcore vibe on a lot of tracks

Anti-Mother needs to gain more love even if its not one of their greatest.

I mean shit, Hornets is basically the basis for Innocent Bystanders/Sun Dies/The Nexus, and is an awesome closer in and of itself. Birth of the Anti Mother was their first try at that punky sound that really showed up on Wrongdoers, Surrender Your Sons is a template for a lot of Meridional... let's not act like it's not a really important album in the discog lol
not to mention it's basically the first, uh, Norma Jean sounding like Norma Jean album, given Bless the Martyr is essentially another band at this point, O' God is just Botch and Redeemer wants to be an Underoath album. they really kicked intot their sound on Anti Mother

Theres definitely some Botch on O God but saying Redeemer is trying to be Underoath is honestly ridiculous. Especially when Define The Great Line is kinda like a poppier O God. Redeemer was the start of their Noise Rock influence.
Not to say that Anti-Mother wasnt important in NJ discog because it certainly is but Redeemer was def the start of what was to come.

Yea I can’t get behind the Reedemer/Underoath comparison either lol. Considering that album came out the same year as Define the Great Line and the only connection they have is Tim McGague co-writing Songs Sound Much Sadder.
Anti-Mother really just took the melodic and hardcore elements that were meshed really well in Redeemer and split them into songs that were more distinctly one or the other while retaining the noisy aspect. I think that’s why a lot of people took issue with it despite the songs being good and them doing that on every album since

I mean, yeah, its a fucking classic, but god damn it's a totally different band than now, and that's not even before addressing the physical members.

How many bands realistically sound the same 14 years after their debut? Different band or not, they haven't gone down the shitter and have only gotten better, IMO.

And, really, would anyone want a band to sound the same after over a decade and 7 albums? As long as they are still nailing whatever sound they are going after and not making the same album over and over again, I am onboard.

still on the fence about whether this or Polar is their best... been jamming this one a lot lately tho, I forgot just how fantastic this album is from end to end. Such a well structured, paced, and composed album
