The closing five tracks (from Desire to God, Drugs, and Sex) is flawless. Musically and consistently I think this is better than Cities, although I have way too much nostalgia attached to Cities to ever fault. Hell too much nostalgia for Anberlin. No way either this or Cities are actually perfect albums, but they mean so much to me.

honestly I think I prefer Lowborn to this, but this has some serious jams for sure. 100% agree about Self-Starter

It took me a while for Lowborn to grow on me by comparison. This is def one of their most consistent albums but I prefer the singles on Cities and New Surrender more.

I mean this album is super great but even if I try to remove all my personal attachments, Cities is superior

Cities is still great but doesn't hold up imo. The lyrics are esp bad through most of the album.

I can see why ppl don’t think Cities holds up AS good as it’s reputation precedes. I just listened to it again last night and while I still loved it there were definite times I felt it’s age. Tbh, since it got released I play Lowborn the most.

yeah i was just saying in the lowborn thread that i enjoy that one and new surrender the most these days. cities holds some of their absolute best songs (and some of their most mediocre, imo), i just think they became better songwritings in time (fin. notwithstanding lol (altho miserabile visu gives it a run for its money)).

yeah fin. is absolutely untouchable. I find myself listening to all of Lowborn, where with Coties now I listen to a handful. I fuck with Hello Alone haaaard still haha. That chorus is so catchy

I listened to Cities last night and I still got goosebumps...

also yes that conversate in Alexithymia has bugged me forever haha. Still think the writing is rock solid. Hello Alone is so good but I can't ever shake that it sounds like a lesser Paperthin Hymn

I never thought Cities was that great really. I'd take most of their other albums over it.

Friendships is my favorite of their first 3 albums. I actually would say this (or Devotion), Friendships, and Lowborn are my top 3 overall.

NTFP/Cities are 1 and 2 but the rest is really hard to rank

NTFP is one of my least favorite by them, aside from Blueprints imo.

Cities is really untouchable and this is not just the nostalgia speaking here
