Don't have high hopes for Augment because it's probably the same exact album again from what I've heard but whatever I'll give it a listen

well if you gave Impulse a 3.5, you'll most likely give Augment a 3.5 at least

Augment is pretty sweet. I wanna say it's my favorite album of 2013, but Counterparts still holds that crown.

if you were an erra fan you'd understand tbh
EDIT: i'll give it the ol' college try. basically their last album impulse had a few songs that sounded the same, and while i could listen to all of them, there were certain sections that felt uninspired.
with this release i personally love every single track and each brings something different to the table. common ground that all tracks share however is nasty as riffage and a great use of atmosphere and clean vocal melodies. jesse VASTLY improved here from impulse. they seem to use more lead guitar soloing whilst the backing guitar keeps a sick groovy riff going, which i loved from impulse. sadly only a few songs did it, whereas on Augment, every song does it!
i honestly can't complain about anything except maybe the gang vocals at the end of dementia but it's kind of cute/funny in a way so i don't mind too much lol xD

I consider surprises to be a band that sucks that releases something good/great or a band that released a bad album and made an impressive comeback. For example, Volition was a nice surprise this year.

atomic bro i couldn't agree more i can't wait to sing along with jesse's insane vocal melodies. they're unlike anything i've heard before in prog metal. it sounds phenominal. and i cant wait to scream along with garrisons beastly vocals. hybrid earth is fucking unreal. UNREAL.
fear i partially agree with you on volition. i kept up with their reddit ama, and their update videos, so i kinda could tell volition would be awesome.
but i probably wont pay volition much attention since this is exactly what i want from metal lol
