He's afraid to be underwhelmed, and possibly rightly so.

I love the music here, problem is it sounds like it was recorded inside a tin can. This is the music equivalent of watching a movie in like 120p; such shitty quality that you can barely tell wtf is going on. I've heard iphone recordings of live concerts that sounded better than this

I don't want to sound like a snobby douchebag by saying this, but the shitty production value was precisely the point of this album as intended by the band. Personally, I love it because it brings a dark and melancholic atmosphere

They intended for it to sound like shit? Well then, I guess that means it's good lol

the whole of second wave norwegian black metal is supposed to be a revolt against standardized music production among other things..

I think people are predisposed to defending these heralded classics and writing off their issues as artistic sensibility. "It was intended to sound like that" as if that lends it authenticity and makes it inherently good. Don't you think you'd like this a hell of a lot more if the production didn't blow ass?

Yeah see, that's a really poor argument. Revolting against standardized production doesn't mean your album is going to sound great when you cut out the 0-500 hz range.

in my case no, and i usually bitch at modern metal releases because their production is too clean and doesnt sound anything like hellhammer

just to add, in the case of transilvanian hunger, the sound and feeling of that record invokes something in me that would be absolutely lost if it had a "smarter" mix. intentional or not, there's a reason a lot of us adore this necrosound.

Yeah idk, it's that stale and gratingly noisey production that makes albums like this sound really samey. I like a little variety, and preferably to not develop tinnitus

I love a lot of this I just wish I could listen to it with decent quality. A better analogy would probably be watching a cam recording of a movie. God damn that album art is so good tho
