*mathy noise punk

I have a weird aversion to 4/4, like I legitimately find it easier to write in off the wall shit like 7/8 or whatever.

i think the weirdest time sig i've written in is 29/8. which is really 3 measures of 7/8 and then one of 8/8

cause you get this hella beat like

1 2 3AND2 2 3AND3 2 3AND4 2 3 4 1 2 3AND2 2 3AND3 2 3AND4 2 3 4 etc etc

yeah working with time signatures can usually make things more dissonant in the music i like (dillinger, off minor, converge, black flag, etc.)

that sounds cool as hell kman.

and i topped myself on the ridiculous time sig thing - 43/8. 5 measures of 7/8, 1 of 8/8.

you've probably written some 3/4. maaaaaybe some 6/8.

honestly time sigs aren't that important, but they're a really great way to write really distinguishable music. Like, you know how great a fucking song OutKast's Hey Ya! is?

well Hey Ya! is in fuckin' 22/4. 3 of 4/4, 1 of 2/4, then 2 more of 4/4. it's such a cool effect, and still super easy to dance to.

i mean i don't even know what time signature this is in but its like the coolest riff ever probably and its the only thing i can think of when someone brings up weird time sigs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU2nZC1lEcc#t=88

I still have no fucking clue how to identify time signatures with ears

I mean I know what they are in theory and shit but I can't figure them out by simply listening to the songs ever

drum beats almost always give it away, if not a repeating guitar phrase or chord will. otherwise i can't really help all that much.

I can recognize waltzes or when one changes and if it's not in 4/4. I kind of count music in my head out of habit. I can't tell you the sig outside of 3/4 or 4/4 though.

it just takes a lot of practice. I listen to a lot of Off Minor and they do some incredible things with time signatures, and if you try to count along hard enough, eventually you'll get there

I don't think I'll accept anything lower than top 5.

I've been jamming this album a lot.
