I was assuming "good" hip hop artists, so not in this case.

if he only had two amazing and one decent album in him was he ever really as talented as we
thought?

Of course. Consistency is obviously not the only metric for talent, and Em's peak was formidably
impressive.

Yeah many artists can be put down that sure as hell don't have a consistent discog

Priest
Maiden
Metallica
Godspeed (though it's just 1 album)
King Crimson
Dream Theater (most 90's stuff, yo)
Minus the Bear

the list can go on and on

Well damn he isn't angry/sad/whatever anymore. Arguably his best material was created in that state of mind

Idk I don't think Recovery is bad at all. Obviously nowhere near this or The Slim Shady LP, but still.

recovery was actually my first em album, so i didn't really have anything to compare it to and thought

it was badass. i've since realized that that album is a ridiculous, overly-long mess with well over

an hour of a tired-sounding em summoning up fake anger to yell about either how his last albums sucked

or how he's back and you should never have counted him out or some other irrelevant, whiny shit. and

the way he has to circumnavigate around lines just to get to his punchlines (which he'll then promptly

stop and ask if you "get it") is infuriating and borderline embarrassing. it's like an established

stand-up comedian telling a joke everyone knows and even newcomers got the first time and then asking

explaining it immediately afterward just in case. recovery and everything since has just been em

pandering to the masses and given the genius and pure emotion of the mmlp, i'm shocked that it's come

to this.

edit: and as far as the "get it" thing goes, i realize he does this on "who knew," but it's not as though he takes 2 bars to get to his point before coming up with some corny-ass pun.

"fuck relapse and his annoying ass accent"

It doesn't really bother me at this point, and there's plenty of stuff delivered straight on the album too. It's more like "fuck recovery and his completely fake delivery". That entire album is so fucking phony I can't stand it.
