I was saying he was way ahead as an overall musician not as a vocalist. There's no era factor anyway cos Gabriel was just as prominent a figure in the 80's as he was in the 70's just as a solo artist.
But like I said he isn't comparable to the others anyway I just added him into the equation as other people (you) brought him up as an influence on Tate.

I'm sure he didn't take it personally.
Fair trade JT ;).
|
| |
Not sure why you're trying to make it look like Gabriel is irrelevant to the discussion when you've brought him up numerous times, prompting me to include him in my own comments ;)
|
| |
I just wanted to point out that Tate fused the styles of both Gabriel and
Halford, that's really the whole point.
It all started with Pleb's post on Halford singing a Tate chorus 2 pages
back.

Yeah I know why you brought him up. Obviously it's not unreasonable to discuss Tate in relation to his influences.
I personally don't hear much Gabriel in Tate though, other than the fact that both reached their peak with a concept album.

Ive always hated that album cover
|
| |
They're only comparable in that they're both the best vocalists in their respective genres.
|
| |
I can vouch for that.

Ive always hated that album cover [2]
its laughable, man

I can vouch for that [2]. As much as I like Ray Alder, I must admit Tate outmatches him, though they both lost much of their high registers over time.

DeGarmo and Wilton were like the Tipton and Downing of prog-metal
for me.

More so than Matheos/Aresti? Interesting.

FW's pretty cool, though I haven't jammed 'em as much as QR.
I just feel Wilton and DeGarmo were out of this world, imo they're very underrated.

I would say both duos are underrated, and deserve more attention on this site. Have you tried Awaken the Guardian, No Exit, or Parallels?
|
| |
Have heard Parallels once, Perfect Symmetry twice, and that's it. Need to change that.

The drumming may not be on Zonder's level in Awaken and No Exit, but they are both very heavy with well thought out lyrics. APSoG is a great one as well, but will likely take a few listens to sink in.

its weird that a band of this renown has as many shit albums as emmure
|
| |
Most of their albums past Promised Land are more meh than flat out shit

Nero, it's official: we're blood brothers man.

So, let's talk about why this rules so much and is prob the best album of '88.
