If JR actually got base to listen to irate that’s the funniest shit

whenever anyone makes a musicianship-based argument for a minimum rating threshold, my urge to drop a point or two suddenly flares up
whereas any substance-contingent argument is just an easy laugh. imagine wasting an acid trip on tool of all bands

I mean I tripped to Lateralus way back in the day when I did that stuff
There was pretty much no better album to trip to

Johnny have you even tripped before

"wasting an acid trip"
yep Johnny never dropped acid confirmed
|
| |
this band is only "good to trip to" if you already believe that they are good to trip to
to people who see through the charade, their music only sounds even more fake and contrived on acid
|
| |
what’s the charade you see through?

Well yeah if you already dont like the music it's prob not the best idea to put it on during a trip lmao
I would argue that hearing shit like reflection and disposition for the first time while tripping would be absolutely wild while in the outdoors
|
| |
I hate the word contrived

I’ve ruined more trips than I can count on one hand by being picky about what music is playing. You’re supposed to just sit back and enjoy the ride. I’m much less negative towards everything when I’m tripping

Yeah I mean I've only done it a handful of times and it was like over 15 years ago at this point but we used to just have like 3 albums that were cool to have on in the background
Lateralus was #1

I’m seeing phish with a friend in July, gonna be tripping for the first time in two years. Phish is not my favorite band by any means but I’m still really looking forward to it. It’s about the energy of the crowd and the pizazz not necessarily what music is playing. And I tend to focus more on the small stuff, like what the guitar player is doing, the rhythm, stuff like that. When I’m tripping I don’t look at the full songwriting picture as much, and just enjoy pleasurable sounds.

Oh man, have fun!

tool comes packing in the pleasurable sounds department, minus this album

Gave the Pneuma playthrough a watch, cuz for whatever reason I'm honest enough to justify my 1'ing an album I've never heard before and troll rated, but yes, very impressive technically. Shame that perfomance is trapped within an overlong slog of a song.
Maybe its just because I've been listening to a lot of Don Cab lately, but extremely technical drumming and capable songcraft are not the same thing. Tool should know, as they've written competent songs that are highly technical before, but I don't think I'm ever gonna listen to Pneuma again thank you

Some y'all need to see a C-D tier jam band or DJ on acid to realize not all music is good on that shit lol
|
| |
I think you hit the nail on the head there, what I look for in tool is solid song writing with a dash of well conceived technicality. Being technical in and of itself doesn’t cut it.

lmao fair but also I would never subject myself to even an A tier jam band
