ive tried to like this album, I really have but i cant. It's a shame that they think making an album 80 minutes long will hide thier lack of ideas and songwriting. its an even bigger shame that it DOES trick people. The songs structures do not progress and end up acting like an intro for 8 minutes. Many of the compositions end up feeling like an afterthought simply becuase they refuse to ever actually reach the climax theyve been building up towards. sure the bass and drums require skill to play, but they are executed in a monotonous and repetive fashion, and in a very distastful way. thier lyrics tend to be much more simple then they let on which is also in bad taste. the guitars flat out suck hammering out power chords that dont sound in sync with the rest of the music. the vocals are very good but dont create hooks or any moments that are memorable or catchy making it very hard to get into them despite their unique quality. a band like the dillinger escape plan pulls off those off kilter dynamics and timing in an interesting and creative way. this band attempts to do the same but consistently fails to impress me becuase skill without ideals/songwriting means very little. its clear they were trying to create an opus but failed. an album like white pony was able to be a rock opus without overambition and pompous diletanttish masturbation. the difference is deftones had ideas and this band does not. tool is trash
