Yeah that one's great.
Also love "It's getting cold again but New York's gorgeous | It's a subway day"

It's still a very good song for sure I just find it less captivating than anything else here aside from Turtleneck. It's more enjoyable as a mood setter than as a song in itself.

I've been listening to this since release and saw a show in Hamilton a few weeks ago, and still, it's not growing on me. There are some good tracks here, I think Guilty Party is a top 20 (if not top 10) National track. That said, this is my LEAST favourite LP. Seriously, I even like the s/t better.

What do you like better about the s/t?

I'm more into it's alt country vibe than the ultra clean, layered, digitally inspired production going on here.

HV and this have my favorite production of all the National albums. This channels Kid A in a lot of ways, love it.

From a purely production standpoint I still think Boxer is best.

I see I see. Yeah the production on Boxer is pretty immaculate. Love it on here too tho, besides Turtleneck. The production is the worst thing about the track imo. It sounds so compressed Matt can barely make it over it in the chorus

@Talons
Same, HV is so thick and immersive. Gotta love the breeziness of Alligator too tho, all those phantom sounds..

Yeah the production on Boxer and Alligator are amazing too. Trouble is great too, but that muted, dreary sound is best when in the right mood.

This has been first one to grow off me actually. I still love it to bits though.

I thought it grew off me too, but then I listened again the past couple days and it made me wonder why I hadn’t heard it in a while. It’s so good. Guess sometimes distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Also thanks for the Kid A comparisons. I’m not alone.

For me, initially I was quite disappointed with this one. It's only been in the last few weeks that I've finally been appreciating it to near the level of any of the band's other recent albums.

I've really come around to this but it's still weak compared to their best albums imo
