Jealous of anyone who has seen them on this recent tour. I wanna see them play Lit Me Up and In The Water.

interesting how split people are on heaven. also nice observation on the weiss comparison. didn't notice that right away but there are some similarities there for sure

They messed up the beginning of In the Water last week which made me irrationally angry, but it was super small so I forgave them. Bastards.

How did they mess up? Like so bad they started over or like a missed chord?
|

they shoulda stopped, played some weezer, then started again. "in the water" deserves a perf playthrough.

I just want to see "1996" live

@SowingSeason, it was small, a cue was missed during the intro. Idr who messed up, but I think someone thought the vocals were gonna come in but it wasn't time yet. They recovered immediately

ah ok...makes sense they would just go with it, then.
yeah, in the water deserves a perfect play through...I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has a profound appreciation for that track...it's so beautiful and mysterious, reminds me of some weird cross between pink floyd and modest mouse circa moon & antarctica.

Agreed. It's one of my favorites by them. Something about the way Jesse says "In the water.." grabs me every time

the best part for me is that resplendent guitar work...it feels like I'm hovering above a still lake shimmering under the moonlight
then of course the chorus is just so smooth and matches everything perfectly and fuck now I have to go listen to it again

Yeah I haven't seen this much variety in track rankings since the last Dear Hunter, which was a fantastic album and my AOTY (though it'd maybe be 3rd at best this year...)

what you thinking for a rating?
this album went in three distinct stages for me:
1) [timestamp: Aug 17-Aug 31] "Holy shit, this is almost as good as TDAG and might even equal it someday this is literally perfect I'm in tears"
2) [timestamp: Sept 1-Sept 30] "Ok, this isn't perfect and some of these songs are clearly better than others. Maybe a hair below Daisy but we'll see with time"
3) [timestamp: Oct 1-present] "Equal than Daisy (I think), just different. Easily their most mature album and has 4 of their best songs ever. An amazing swan song that cements their legacy, but isn't anywhere close to TDAG."
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.5
How can you justify this having a 5 if it doesn't come anywhere close to TDAG? Has this made you reconsider your rating system?

lol
my rating system is for me to assign it the number I want
I have 4 different BN albums at a 5, they're all incredible to me in different ways

Album Rating: 4.5
It's so hard for me to rate, i think it's their most poignant release to date. I know TDAG is an emotional rollercoaster of sorts but this hit me in a completely different, more relatable way. It's almost more grown up than TDAG and its lyrics therefore resonated with me unlike any of their other releases. I honestly think its a 5 but taking away my obvious BN bias much like your own, id say it's a 4.3 ranking 2nd or 3rd in their discog just due to some inconsistencies. Although for me bias and all it's their best, if that makes sense which i think it will

i like your thinking sowing and i have to agree with your current position

Stoked to check this out.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has a profound appreciation for that track
imo "in the water" is so obviously the best song on the album, and this is coming from someone who really likes every song on the album (even loves most of them). its just when "in the water" comes on, i kinda feel like "this is on an entirely different level".
