Lyrics were also a pretty big reason why this got a lot of attention.
Album is littered with sick-as-fuck lines, and some of them are really crazy and blood pumping and all that good stuff.

well they claimed to be pretty inventive. the first words of the album and the name of the album make that clear. this is alright id just rather listen to fugazi, nomeansno, husker du, jesus lizard, drive like jehu, unwound, shellac, etc

Album name(and a lot of the lyrics) is tongue-in-cheek, it's a reference to another album called "The Shape of Jazz to Come", which is in itself a reference to a book called "The Shape of Things to Come".
