FWTH and EIF are 5's but not better imo

TSOMD is a 4.5 and probably top 10 post-2000 dm but all three of those ^^ are better imo. but they all rule so who's counting really. let's rejoice and enjoy these wonderful musical artists.

graves of the archangels is another one I'd def put top 10 post-2000 dm, just don't love as much as nekropsalms

this album doesn't have the worm that gnaws in the night so I'm never gonna listen to it again

" ulcerate and obliteration are the most relevant active death metal bands"

relevant currently, yeah. there are a few bands that are still active from the 90s that are more historically relevant but yeah I know what you're saying and I agree

Horrendous and Zealotry have potential for that too.

yeah I guess there are probably a lot of people who would argue for portal. hard to argue against them for relevance, even though they're not that close to ulcerate or obliteration for me

"Well Gorguts are still active.."

that's what I was alluding to. I think immolation and incantation are still active too so yeah in a historical sense, ulcerate and obliteration have a ways to go, but as far as being currently relevant, ulcerate and obliteration are probably at the top for me, along w/ gorguts

yes they are active, but they are not actively churning out stuff that is a. the same quality as their old stuff or b. as quality as the bands putting out their best music in their prime

meaning ulcerate and obliteration right now are making better music than anything recent by either immolation incantation and even gorguts. gorguts could be the best dm band of all time imo, and their last two have been great, but not as good as the stuff ulcerate and obliteration have been putting out (though I wasnt huge on vermis even tho i liked it)

Some of you prob will disagree with me, but Ulcerate just repeat themself since EiF. Vermis was good, but that style just becomes dull after a while .

Ye Ulcerate and Obliteration occupy their own little tier of greatness. I would say Portal too but Vexovoid brought them down a little in my estimations.

"Ulcerate just repeat themself since EiF"

Whenever I see people post something like this I'm just convinced they weren't listening very hard smh

I thought Vermis was pretty powerful stuff. The Imperious Weak and Await Recession kill me every time.

Portal isn't as good as the other two but they broke a lot of ground in exposing that "swirly chaos" sound to a broad base. I feel like they kinda carried the torch for bands like Howls of Ebb.
