I feel like the instruments and vocals of each song are gorgeously woven together, but the broader songwriting sometimes gets messy or predictable (as if I'm some authority on the subject...)

Personally think the songwriting works perfectly, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable about songwriting. When I listen to this album, I appreciate so many little things that were carefully placed and the way all the different instruments fit together so well. Sometimes one instrument takes the fore, and other times they blend. But it doesn't feel forced or anything. I class that as good songwriting, but like I say, I'm sure there's some educated musician who can deconstruct my opinion and tell me why I'm being retarded.
