@Jokine I think this sounds pretty unique as far as tech death production goes, it’s very thin and clean but also with minimal gain. Doesn’t sound overproduced like a lot of albums that came out shortly after this

"he lived in every periphery fan's head rent free"
Good. They're seriously some of the most annoying people I've seen.

Production is perfect for this kind of album. Would not work without the clean choice. Noctambulant for example would really benefit from better production.

Yeah idk I rather like the production on this really

@pika I think I’ve jammed Augury a little but I’ve been meaning to give them a dedicated listen so maybe I’ll do that soon. Don’t expect my rating for this to suddenly drop tho lol

Augury is fantastic as well, different vibe tho

Like I enjoy the production, but to me what seperates this from other tech is the songwriting. Apparition is probably the best of them all. I gotta make Augury a priority to listen to.

"The primary issue with this album is that it lacks any sense of dynamic build-up or sense of being able to halfway coherently explore a single idea because nearly every single moment here is intended to be some kind of mindblowing showstopper and extreme display of dexterous gymnastics."
I don't know why but this sentence from the newest MA review actually makes me want to put this person in a labor camp.

I like when people decide what the songwriter was thinking and intending when they wrote the music and assume that because it’s technical, the artist was simply trying to show off. My fav

I like when people can't even understand obvious written words and misinterpret them so that they have something "clever" to say.
There's little about showing off in his review. He's complaining that the whole album is a never-ending barrage of ideas. Before you could've appreciate one, you've already been bombarded with 5 more. And it's extremely overdone one this album.

"There's little about showing off in his review."
"because nearly every single moment here is intended to be some kind of mindblowing showstopper and extreme display of dexterous gymnastics" is literally entirely about showing off

"is literally entirely about showing off"
there is literally entirely one sentence in a 1200 word review. i'd call that little. don't be tense like a goat's ballsack.
"problem" of this album is not that it's "showing off" or something which is also not what this review ponders about. This album is full to the brim with stuff (i like the bay movies analogy) which not always fits together. some prefer bay's movies, other's rather watch space odyssey.
skills of the sop guys are undeniable. i like this album, but i don't think its a masterpiece.

""problem" of this album is not that it's "showing off""
The sentence Leibniz quoted, from the review you're defending, says the album's showiness is its "primary issue" lol. Even the criticism that the album's a non-stop barrage of ideas is flimsy because there's plenty of repetition and variations of themes here.

Better songwriting than Morningrise fite me

This album shows off, it just remembers to show off in a vaguely similar way a little later just in case you forgot how showy it can really be.
the audio equivalent of an ice-cream seeking toddler throwing a paddy for the 2nd time - on the off chance its minder failed to recollect how damn annoying all the squawking was the first time around
