Halford was fantastic in his prime, but imo he wouldn't have suited this album. This
needed a Halford/Gabriel hybrid.

And I would say he was a better Halford/Gabriel hybrid than even King Diamond.

I concur.

And I mean that mostly in terms of lyrical content at their peaks, even if King Diamond has a better personality.

Gabriel >> Halford (in his prime) = Tate (in his prime) >>>>> King Diamond.

I am sure we can at least agree they are all awesome.
|
| |
Tate is my fave out of all those, but Gabriel and Halford both make my
Top 10. KD doesn't.
JT is a lot more 70's than I am, hehe.

Gabriel as an overall musician is way ahead of the others imo and although perhaps not as technically impressive as Tate or Halford (in their prime) his voice is definitely my favourite of the 3 (disregarding King Diamond cos he doesn't come close to the others).
|
| |
Gabriel isn't really comparable to the others though. He's a very different style of vocalist/musician.
|
| |
Tate
Halford
Gabriel
Cornell
Belladonna
Mercury
Dio
Gillan
Those are more or less my faves, although I still need to work on that.

how can you compare gabriel to king diamond
|
| |
Agreed Killer.
|
| |
You cant
|
| |
weren't we talkin about melissa just yesterday
|
| |
Agreed, some comparisons shouldn't be made.
|
| |
even tho gabriel's pretty good
if you guys like powerful rock vocalists johnny gioeli is the Man, also i dig dave grohl a lot when it comes to his shoutin
|
| |
I mean saying Gabriel was ahead of Tate is like saying KK was better at
riffs than Mustaine. The era factor kinda invalidates that imo. It really
comes down to what the listener prefers.
And since Halford sang metal while Gabriel sang prog, well, case
closed.
But it's all right JT, we know you're a 70's prog freak so yeah.
|
| |
so, subjectivity
|
| |
Yeah, it comes down to what people like best.
