"damn how do i even begin to point out the wrong premises in this one"
well stuff like radio/video is pretty damn cringe compared to the raw, unsettling awesomeness of this album

I used to like all of system indiscriminately, but coming back to it after a while I think this album is probably the only one I could have on repeat

The whole ensuing chaos of Mind is so fucking good, but the beginning is probably my favorite little riff ever lol

This is one of those albums that definitely feels like a debut album, but it’s still excellent

It’s their best, and it’s a debut in the best way because it’s fucking weird and fresh and just energetic as hell

"coming back to it after a while I think this album is probably the only one I could have on repeat"
This and Toxicity for me. Once Daron started taking over the entire band, I started tuning out

This will forever and always be their best and a crowning achievement in the world of heavy music.

This album is great and all, but there's a definite drop off in quality after War. That last 40% of the album is weak except for PLUCK. Tox and Mesmerize are much more consistently good albums.

^Huh, Mind is one of my favorites here

Lol, I'm sure this is going to offend somebody, but I honestly hate that song. Pointless and directionless dreck imo. And I say this as someone who's about to perform the album in its entirety for its 25th Anniversary. It's probably my least favourite SOAD song.

It slaps, but it goes all over the map yeah.

agree that a lot of the music here is slippery. some stye over substance happening fs. appreciate it a ton and think it's brilliant but prefer their work after this

"Once Daron started taking over the entire band, I started tuning out"
Btw, I used to blame Daron for this too, but from recent interviews with the other members (particularly Dolmayan) it seems more like Serj was the problem. He lost interest in SOAD and metal in general and Daron was forced to take a bigger role on Mesmerise/Hypnotize because Serj wasn't interested in even recording vocals for most of it.

explains a lot
band was firing on all damn cylinders on here. mez/hyp are so overrated
|

Album Rating: 4.5 | Sound Off
mez/hyp is best when it sounds like the older albums, so stuff like holy mountains, question and such
hate the corny accordion gayness from radio/video and the quirky vulnerability vibes you get from revenga for example

"mez/hyp is best when it sounds like the older albums, so stuff like holy mountains, question and such

This makes no sense. Radio/Video is basically a musical sequel to Peephole and as such is probably the song that has the closest analogue to something on this album.
