break free is too infectious to dislike, also Stay the night by Zedd and hayley williams... both those songs coming out around the same time, that song still has me stunned 6 years later

""my hair" is great. one of those "if this melody didn't exist someone would have to invent it" feelings for me"
Fortunately for you it sounds like a million songs that exist

this is neither here nor there but once my brother said that the only good way to write a song is to start by completely copying another song and THEN changing the chords around a bit--if you start from scratch then who knows what you might be ripping off, whereas at least in the first instance you're starting from a position of knowing what you're ripping off and how you can then make it different
pretty smart huh

Man the new album is pretty average. Nothing on it is very catchy and half the songs use the exact same beat. Probably her worst album to date.

LOL

Ull 5 it in 4 days

Not this one I'm afraid. Your heart is in the right place though because I'm a helpless optimist.

But yeah aside from her vocal talent it's pretty much trash
|
| |
Maybe not 5 it but I bet ull come around on it in some capacity
At the very least you'll have something positive to say about the songs I hate in due time
|
| |
I mean if you are into disney ariana I could see it being a let down but from the perspective of preferring fuccgirl ariana it's up there with this for her best by a mile

Dangerous Woman had those huge choruses though. This is just an entire album of *thump thump "fuck me til dawn, ayyyyyaaaaeeee" thump thump* with virtually no variation or big melodies to sink your teeth into. I don't get the appeal. Thank U, Next hinted at this but it still had awesome tracks like Fake Smile. I've listened to Positions twice today and still barely remember anything. Generally speaking I do like Ariana and think she's a clear cut above most mainstream pop artists, so I hope you're right about me reversing course, but my initial takeaway is that this non-catchy pop.

Dangerous woman is 90% garbage imo so me thinks we look to ariana for different things

That's probably correct lol. Into You is peak Ariana IMO, and DW was brimming with addicting choruses. I do like the trap beats in doses, just not an entire album of it with no hooks to speak of.
|
| |
I do actually love into you, that's part of the 10% I dont hate
Think new album has plenty of good hooks they are just subtle. I think the era of more bombastic ariana is kinda done, but even then I think there are instances of it on the new album and I also dont think the whole album can be appropriately labelled trappy (although my fav songs all are lol)

production on DW is far better than anything following it, Ari just be following the trap trend which I can't knock her for, but albums such as ME and DW felt much more "infectious" than anything after, and it's down to the production and beat selection

Eh yeah, admittedly I don't typically go to artists like Ariana for subtlety, I'm looking for instant gratification. I'm let you know if it grows on me, but the outlook is bleak.

"Ari just be following the trap trend which I can't knock her for,"
and all she was doing before that was following different trends
