idk, I love the atmosphere and tension of this one. it works that angle just as well as any other converge record I think, and it's still got some belters in it too

though I will say I miss the sheer ferocity of their earlier works, but what ya gonna do, ey?

just think some of the criticism this gets is a little bit absurd, just because its not like as frantic as axe to fall. and as someone who thinks axe to fall and no heroes get a little tedious in places, its a welcome change. they do the more accessible shit well, and they perfected it here whereas on axe to fall some of the cuts missed the mark, most notably the album closer

I think this is in my top 3 favorite Converge albums. Jacob has never sounded better

This is decent. Wildlife and A Single Tear are fire.

@onion

I just disagree with the notion that people generally dislike this record because it isn’t crazy/dissonant enough. AWLWLB & AtF are relatively accessible records & I absolutely love both, however I find this very hit or miss.

axe to fall isnt nearly as accessible as all we love and this. all we love is also much more hit or miss than this. this feels like the most well put together album of theirs in a while, as no heroes and AWLWLB can get inconsistent in places, and axe to fall gets tedious once you realize much of it is just kinda the same thing over and over again. this nails consistency quality wise while also being varied enough to stay interesting

We clearly have different opinions regarding what constitutes quality & consistency so I’ll just say that AtF is accessible when compared to their earlier works, a lot of people found that one easier to digest, so that’s not my individual perspective because I started with Jane.

This feels more cohesive and consistent than NH, but I think NH's peaks destroy this

I agree with this sentiment, although No Heroes is a 4 and this is close to a 3 for me. I'll be seeing these guys in two weeks and hopefully hearing these songs live makes me appreciate them more. If not, oh well. I already have a gold mine of material from them.
