"The imagery reminds me of a mewithoutYou song."
Well, mewithoutYou is my favorite band so maybe that's why I subjectively adored "Could Never Be Heaven" from the get go. It's probably still my top favorite from Science Fiction, followed by "Same Logic/Teeth" and "Desert".

The whale is well-rehearsed
Swimming circles in the church
A Cardinalfish says, "God is dead"
The whale says, "Get out of my head"
I mean does that not sound exactly like something Weiss would pen? lol

It does. I remember when I heard that I thought of Weiss; he's easily my favorite lyricist of all time.

It's between him and Lacey for sure, for me.

I wish I could see them this tour, but alas, I cannot. But I'll always cherish the memory of seeing them before Deja came out.

Nice. I saw them for the first time in '07 when they were touring for TDAG, again on the tour from the video above ('11), and then one last time some time around '13 or '14 I wanna say. I regrettably missed out on their most recent tour as well.

They were great when I saw them with Modest Mouse in Queens, NY a couple years back. Green Baron and SnakeDelilah were there too.

I never thought to seek out other sputnikers but I'm betting there were plenty each time I saw them

I saw them in 2002 or 2003 with Dashboard Confessional and MXPX, hahaha. The real long lasting memory I've got of that show is them playing a good chunk of "There's No 'I' In Team". Yeah, that TBS drama was in it's prime then.
Then I saw them in 2014 and i was much older and only remember cropdusting everyone.

holy crap MXPX, what a throwback. Imagine them sharing a stage now...
also let's not talk about an Underoath reunion, I can't imagine them pulling off this long of a hiatus as well as BN did just here, it'll probably be like the Thrice album -- it gets a 3.5 just for being by Thrice but is almost immediately forgettable
anyway yeah brand new in baltimore on monday was amazing, it's funny how Jesse is so amped during songs and then super down to earth as he comes back for the Soco encore. His voice hasn't changed even a little.

I have seen these guys 4 times. The best was with Manchester Orchestra and Kevin Devine in 2006.
They had two sets of drums for a lot of Brand New's set with multiple members of other bands playing them; Tautou was especially exceptional and powerful in this format. Jesse also closed Where Have You Been on MO's set with Andy Hull and it was one of the greatest moments of live music that I had even been a part of.
I can't believe that was over 10 years ago.
