I understand that so much hate is a consequence of BN’s popularity. However, JL/BN doesn't do hysterical/whiny emo anymore and this album proves it. Besides, most of the adults that still dig BN grew with the band and doesn't do high school drama anymore. But I won’t discuss it any further as it would only reassure your argument about fanboys etc.
BTW I don't think that JL meant literary cutting yourself in the song you are referring to. I think he meant cutting as surgical incisions and he sung about redesigning one's life.
