That's tough to answer because I'm a lifelong fan. These guys occupy a holy trinity with Brand New and mewithoutYou. It's their best album in my opinion, but that's objectively debatable and I also have a massive emotional attachment to this record.
The quick answer is that any album besides Cope is a good starting point. If you want to witness their growth over time start with their debut. If you want immediate satisfaction then I'd say to either start with Simple Math or just listen to this. Mean Everything to Nothing is also an immense record.
If it weren't for Cope they'd have a perfect discography (and even that album isn't bad).

Aight, gonna go in soon as my current jam finishes ;] My days of jamming those two + Thrice are a little past (mwY less so) but maybe these guys will get that itch going again

These guys are so important to me. It took me like 2 years after my first listen to really start loving them the way I do now though so I don't know if that means anything.

I feel like I should have heard this album + band a while back, is it ok to start here?
start where it began in 2006 and go in order

I understand why The Mistake sucks now. Those verses are lifeless. Similar issue on the last track imo. Everything else is 5/5.

Fuck it, bumping to 5. I don't even really like their other stuff, but this is just sitting better and better with time

I think this might have overtaken TDAG as my all time favorite album.

Sowing, please make an avi where the person in the Black Mile art has a Santa hat.
agree that you can pretty much start anywhere in their discography except with Cope/Hope

HA - yo I was legitimately just thinking of the same exact same thing. I'm not good enough with photoshop so if someone wants to make it for me, I'll do it! (I stole my current one from reddit)

The verses on The Silence are earth-shatteringly emotional wtf
Even on The Mistake by the time Hull hits that end chorus, "I don't wanna walk awaaay from yooou" I have goosebumps.
Some people need to learn how to feel.

I probably need to give this another shot. I was too hyped on Science Fiction for this to really have an effect on me back when it came out.

The Maze needs to be longer. Best song.

Emotions are great and all but I’m talking about the song-writing. Other songs (The Parts, The Grocery) do the emotional heavy lifting imo, so the Mistake gets little points in that category.
Kinda just threw out the blurb about the Silence though, not as familiar with that one because it never draws my attention.

“Given how terribly pixelated the site makes the album art, I originally thought a person was hanging via noose.”
I’d be willing to bet that double take is intentional by MO
