no. Only listened to it one time all the way through. Theres tons of stuff to digest in here. Dont feel like giving this a 5 anyway. Might be a 4.5 tho

no one thinks of giving a 5 an album on its first listen, you dont say wow this is a classic the 1st time you check it

Album Rating: 4.0
if you think it's as good as your other 5s, why the hell not

What Valkyrie said. Some people take the "Classic" moniker next to the 5 here too seriously. Almost none of my 5's can also be considered classic albums, they're just the ones I like the most so I give the highest rating this website allows.
I 5'd Haviettety and Still Life the first time I spun them.

i don't think that's true though there's definitely some people who think that way
it's more a case of not getting too carried away by the hype train, as well as the fact that albums might wear off over time with repeated listens. that's why some tend to avoid 5ing on first listen or shortly after release

its not about being serious, its about being coherent
im talking about me, i never heard a new album for the first time and said wow this a classic dark side of the moon level

It's happened to me a few times to be honest (very few) but what matters is what I'm going to think of it after a couple of months, realistically. Like I often overrate and then lower the score after a while. something can be let's say a 4.0 on first listen, grow and even stay a 5 for a while and then retreat once more to a 4.0, happens especially often to me cuz i seem to be changing opinions on music a lot

I don't see the problem of 5'ing straight away, you can always just change it later. I've personally minus lives showed only 5'ed an album straight away only 3 times.

i mean yeah there's no reason to be beholden to someone else's personal rating rules

>im talking about me, i never heard a new album for the first time and said wow this a classic dark side of the moon level
what if you did indeed encounter dark side of the moon? would you not think it's a 10/10 album on first listen assuming you don't know anything about its history or legacy?

I don't mind giving a 5 rating to an album that has just come out if it keeps blowing my mind after repeated listens. Did it to Gorguts' Colored Sands when it came out and it's still a 5 to this day in my book.
I'm still undecided about this one but it's incredible stuff for sure, will give it some more spins before rating it.

I'd have to really think about whether any of my ratings are inflated from hype.
This definitely isn't one of them. Hawks put me on this like 5 days after it came out he was like "WAT, U'VE NVR HURD OV VEKTOR U NOOB!?" lol he didn't really say that.
I had this at a 4.5 for a while and realized after like 30 spins that not only had I not gotten tired of it, I was enjoying it more. I'm still picking out little nuances that make me smile.
