Never really got into these guys aside from the Mosquito ep but going back and decided to start here and was shocked to discover one of my favorite rap albums sampled the opening song. Last place I expected to find a sample from this album lol

okay so beyond the initial WTF factor, using that pentatonic synth motif was a sharp choice
update: wait why is he rapping completely out of time with the music
update 2: okay it's catching up around 1:15 but that was...triggering

this isn't just a sample, it's them rapping over the looped opening to Wrists of Kings lol. did Isis even get paid for this? left-fieldest rap/atmospheric metal collision since Pussy Print

I highly doubt Isis got paid lol I tried to search and can’t even find anything acknowledging they even sampled it. The only sample that pops up is Jah Vinci for that song. That album wasn’t necessarily mainstream big but when it comes to underground street artists they were one of the biggest from that era. It took me a minute to place where I’d heard it before when I put this on yesterday because this was the last thing I’d expect to take from an Isis song lol shit blew my mind when it clicked

Tool blows agreed.

Just gave my first ever listen to a Tool album (Lateralus), ain’t that bad to have so many haters around these corners. Vocals are garbage, but has many good moments instrumentally. Doesn’t touch any of ISIS, mind you.

I mean Lateralus and Aenima are basically as flawless as you can get imo
Their fans have a reputation of being pretentious douchebags, and that's not really entirely unwarranted, but pretending that Tool blows is pretty silly imo

Tool got some great tracks but they have nothing that comes close to ISIS imo

Glad this one continues to garner re-evaluations. It is a marked departure from their previous albums in a lot of ways they just shed their old skin for something new. You can sort of group this and Wavering Radiant in the same way you would group Oceanic and Panopticon.
Also, for all the TOOL talk, y'all should see how deep the connection between these two bands actually goes.

I saw ISIS open up for Tool back in like 2006/2007
I didn't know who ISIS was so I missed half their set, so hah
Point 1 Tool, Point 0 ISIS

He is not mad: his thought is clearer than the saner man
For in her he saw beauty overflowing through the tattered clothes
She was his queen: she is a queen
In dreams he wanders the dark in search of her light
Not many songs that do more with four lines of lyrics

I saw ISIS open for tool on that tour as well.
And agreed Lateralus and Aenima are as flawless as it gets.
And also, In the Absence of Men.
