Ehhh, I don't think it's a crescendo I'm looking for. I can't really put my finger on whats bothering me about it. This is consistent and a little catchy though, I'll give it that.

Well enjoy it for what it is. Even if it's just an enjoyable 3.0 or something, I'm sure you'll still find a handful of tracks worth replaying.

Yeah, just about to hit track 8 and it sounds like it's going to be a 3 for me. Which isn't all that bad, it's better than this album was at least.

Well Clover, idk how much you focus on lyrics but the lyrics are essential to that album. I personally think the instrumentals are amazing as well, but the lyrics elevate it to a whole other level.

I'm a sucker for good lyrics, but they're usually not something I notice on a first listen. So I'd have to give it another spin sometime later.

I honestly adored ILYH upon first listen but I do understand why some people don't like it. This, on the other hand, had to grow on my a lot - first few listens, it was a 2.5-3, but obviously things have changed.

Part of my admiration for FJM is his flamboyant persona that I think goes hand in hand with his music. I'd say watch a few of his live songs off of ILYHB from late night performances and festivals and it may spark your interests more. Dude is a hell of a performer.

His Velvet Underground-style cover of Ryan Adam's covers of Taylor Swift's songs were pretty good.

Yeah FJM's flamboyant persona is why I can understand some not liking him. For me, he pulls it off, but for others it could definitely just be annoying.

By the persona I mean the Father John Misty character he plays - essentially, it is a parody of himself, in which he filters reality through layers of irony.

What I have to wonder about re: FJM (we're kind of off topic in this thread but w/e) is whether the Father John Misty persona is sustainable. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to abandon it after another few albums and perhaps return to releasing records under his real name - or even a different persona.

yeah, I kind of went on a nonsensical tangent.
Like i said earlier, Reddit loves to hype FJM misty to death, so what you're saying is the same things I've been hearing. I don't entirely know how his persona plays into his music, so I can't really comment about that. lol.
