Ulver jump between sounds so much that you can listen thru in p much any order you like and have an equally confusing experience regardless lol
Their 00s LPs are the best and most exciting imo, so comb those bois and start here

William Blake is defs down with their worst and War of the Roses is mid yeah, avoid those two along with Kveld and Flowers of Evil. Everything else is worthwhile

That's not even true when Kveldssanger is primarily a folk record

William Blake is pretty cool. Prob the weakest of the ones I've checked (besides Flowers of Evil), but still great

A 5.0 and a 5.0 for me, but they aren't the most popular Ulver releases, true. Still hurts to see it put this way.

I think most regard either Bergtatt or Nattens, Perdition City, Shadows and Messe to be their peak records. The ones in between are totally worth your while most of the time though, crazy good band in most of the styles they've touched.

"avoid war of the roses"

shame

if the dude is really asking for advice, ulvers discography is varied to the point of comedy so theres no hard rule about rankings. do a full discog run to see where you fit. imo some of their best work is hidden in their EPs: silencing the singing / silence teaches you how to sing / a quick fix of melancholy

& wars of the roses is a masterpiece

Yes it is. 100% don't get the hate. People loved and praised Assassination as something new while Roses already did it better. Its bad reputation is a historical artifact.
