haven't got galaxybrained that hard in a long time damn, hold my beer
"I just think Patton could sing everything Buckley did if he wanted to"
Can't remember how high Patton's range goes, but from memory I'm sceptical he could hit So Real comfortably. Regardless, these tracks wouldn't suit his voice half as well

"What do you mean by heartless?" man Patton is not about sharing his heart with vocal strings ....he's a bit of a chameleon, all the praise to him and his band(s) tho m/

Doesn't Patton have like the biggest octave range out of all rock singers or smth like that? I heard that one before

Think of every impressive Patton moment you can remember and tell me how many of them are falsetto

would love to hear Patton take a stab at strange fruit. thats not to say I dislike Patton him and my dad went to high school together in fact, but I would say more people would agree Buckley's voice is just better sounding. I am not talking about range here either, Patton literally has one of the most advanced ranges of any mainstream singer EVER, but range doesn't make a vocalist great. it is one of many tools at their disposal. I would argue what Buckley was able to do with his range, which btw is also HIGHLY advanced, is better than what Patton can do with his.

and yes mike patton has the widest vocal range, much in the same way aesop rock has the widest vocabulary use of any rapper. though neither of those metrics makes them the best at their respective mediums.

this is a funny argument though because Patton/freddie/buckley are going to be in most self respecting vocal snobs(me) top 50

Personally, I like Patton's vocals way more. I heard some people complain about Buckley sounding whiny before though. It all comes down to taste anyway. Those 2 guys have some of the biggest cult followings of fans raving about their vocal chops. I think that's for a reason

Didn't Mr Bungle start off at high school talent shows? Did you dad catch these?

Yeah but Johnny was questioning if he could hit the notes in So Real. Considering Patton has a higher range I'd argue he could, right?

absolutely could hit the notes but I don't think it would sound good at all, another part about vox is the ability to carry out things like falsetto and vibrato over long periods of time. these take god-given or "you're born with it" type of talent. can it be learned? sure.. can you make it sound good? probably not. Patton isn't well known for that type of breathing technique but I am sure he is familiar with it but my guess would be he would not be able to carry the sustained vibrato in that song. its very foreign and strange on the vocal cords.
|
| |
link me anything that has him singing in that range. I'm not sceptical he could cover it, just genuinely struggling to remember any Patton that isn't baritone or experimental freakout lol

So do you think Buckley would nail that scream in Malpractice?
|
| |
Buckley never needed to scream like that to excel in the ways he did, so that's moot
