Was my favorite Deftones for nearly a decade, but ultimately WP is their masterpiece.

"He had a throat injury and maybe vocal damage from screaming too much around 2001."
I think it was a while later after the touring cycle for s/t, but yeah: throat surgery did. That's why he focusses more on these inhale-like screams and high pitched screams like on Royal

Maybe I should revisit this. Tried it 3 times total in my life and every time I've gotten bored as hell around the 4th or 5th track and changed it

Im not a big deftones fan so im not in the loop of whats the best and worst according to their fans but read quite a few people saying this was an average album when I always thought it was one of their best.

It’s one of their best. And it’s definitely a grower Gyro. Hexagram, Battle axe, Deathblow, When girls telephone boys, Anniversary, Bloody Cape — album is fucking stacked.

This is probably the most underrated Deftones. Shits on everything that came after SNW.

you are truly, absolutely and unabashedly correct
although i'd still say SNW is their most underrated one purely for the fact that it is in fact their best

Bloody Cape is monstrous.
Needles and Pins is an underrated tune here, much like the album itself tbh.

Gonna echo this page by stating how underrated this album is. When I'm in the mood this hits the spot more than any other 'tones.

snw is a solid 4 but it's all over the place in terms of quality and consistency

"snw is a solid 4 but it's all over the place in terms of quality and consistency"
I agree it's probably as eclectic as this (if not more), but for me SNW is far more consistent and the melodies are quite something there. Even the heavier songs (Rats!Rats!Rats!, Combat, Rapture) hit harder than anything else they've ever done.

It's sonically all over the place but I think it's their best offering overall.
Pink Cellphone is a slight blemish on an otherwise perfect album.
