Sequoia Throne was my introduction the band, but I heard this shorty after and loved it right away.
To me, the first 5 songs on Fortress are killer, every one of them sound different and have a lot of depth. But then the 2nd half just totally falls flat. It's like they even knew it, that little diddley after Palms Read is the last interesting part of the album for me.
This concludes my opinion/answer to a 6 month old question that wasn't directed at me

Yeah that was the first song I heard off of this, love that little bass slap/pop Arif does in the intro
m/
And yeah foxxxy I'm probably not giving it enough credit. I really haven't spun the last half in long time, maybe it will have grown on me by now.

I wonder if Arif had stayed if Protest would be a different band.

I would think so, but he played on Volition and didn't write any of the music or lyrics, so I wonder how that would have worked out in the long run either way.
Also miss Moe, although Chris Adler was a beast on that aforementioned album

Music wise, probably not.

Arif's lyrics just made their music a bit more cohesive and elevated the product as a whole
musically, I don't see how anything would be different

just realized there is a remaster of this. is it much different than the original?
and it's crazy how ive heard this idk how many times and there are still things that take me by surprise. the breakdowns in heretics & killers and nautical are ridiculously good

Yeah Arif has a bit more punch and you can differentiate the guitars much better.
Rody is slightly less in your face though, which is a :'( for me lol
The overall tone of the original still just stands out more imo
