I might lower my rating soon. I keep thinking about their other albums when I listen to this and it makes this sound worse

God damn, I fucking love Don Anderson, and I love this album. Can't believe all the hate.

Not really hate as much as it is disappointment.

I guess I'm just not sure what people were expecting. I mean, this definitely took several listens to appreciate, but I'm not at all let down. Also, its gotten rave reviews everywhere except for here.

this is probably the most disappointing release of the last 2 years

It only seems bad when you compare it to their other albums. On its own this is actually a great album.

I actually think the problem is the production. It's fucking terrible
|

I'd agree. I hate it when a band changes production style drastically. They should keep to the same production for every album. It creates a more cohesive discog.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or sincere with that comment. But regardless, whoever mixed this album fucked up big time, these songs could have a lot more power and a denser atmosphere with a more competent mix. The other thing that bothers me is how thin and trebly both the lead guitar and the acoustic and clean guitars (when layered over distorted riffs) sound.

I'm being sincere. The production of this album would be fine for raw black metal, but it doesnt really suit Agalloch's style of music.
Like I said before, these songs would definitely sound amazing live

Yeah, this got a lot of really good reviews elsewhere (fuck, i think it got like an 8.5 on P4K) and seems to be pretty well-accepted by their fanbase.

They sound much, much better live. Really, all of the band's discography translates incredibly well to a live setting. That said, I don't have much of a problem with this album's production.
