Because the other songs aren't that great
Vesuvius is incredible though so nvm

Illinois can be a bit of a drag to listen to. John Wayne Gacy, Jr., Casimir Pulaski Day, and The Predatory Wasp will always be some of my absolute favorite songs of all time though.

there's plenty of good tracks on here, without Impossible Soul I'd say this is still 3.5-4 territory
in fact the only track I don't care for is All For Myself

Impossible Soul is a 6.0 so maybe I should up my avg for this album
But tbh most of the time I just listen to the opener, Vesuvius, and then skip to I.S.
If I.S. was a 1-song EP it'd be a classic

Gacy Jr + the music video is quite chilling, I like how Stevens doesn't vilify him but presents him as a tragic product of his abusive upbringing and his uncontrollable perverse impulses.

Back to the Illinois conversation, the only songs I ever return to on it are Come On Feel the Illinoise! and John Wayne Gacy Jr. Two perfect songs nested among all the bloat.

I usually return to a handful of Illinois tracks whenever I feel like jamming it: the intro, Come On!, John Wayne, Decatur, Chicago, and Casimir.
