Undoubtedly the band's best album, near enough every song on here breathes ambition and epic soundscapes. Although Carter had yet to find his harsh vocals (They mainly bring the overall quality down a notch for me), his cleans harmonize beautifully with the likes of 'Early grave', 'Follow the water' and 'In elegance'. The songwriting is pretty well thought out to, given that the album is consistent the whole way through. The shortest songs could perhaps be labelled as filler, but the title track more than makes up for this with a gradual yet excellent finish to an excellent album.

I think if he combined the vocal stylings of this album and Ruin, it would be a perfect mix

oohh I love space marines!

Opening riff of Early Grave is so deadly.
Also seeing this band in November. Of course, mainly going because of PtH.

I love this but as far as the vocals go I'd have to say Ruin has this beat.

Can never decide if I like Hollow Crown or Ruin vocals better, might prefer these very slightly.

Yeah it's a tough call for real but I think that Ruin's have just a little more depth

I wish Sam would have combined his Ruin style with this. He only does a couple words in those lows on this record. It's annoying as fuck how his vocals change every record and then he decides to keep the shittier style from THAN

Someone posted a live video of him on tour a few months ago in the Daybreaker thread (or maybe it was Ruin. Can't remember) and he actually sounded way better than on record. Hopefully their next release is something more like the first three records
