Seriously, especially when "they" aren't even the same people who made their classic albums. Nobody can really be surprised with how they are now, its really only the same band in name.

just look at kayo dot, they blow up their line-up after practically each album and always manage to stay solid (although that might be due to the main songwriter staying the same)

In flames sounds like the musical representation of rollo of vikings: they betray their roots in order to become more popular.

Its always sad when a band turns into more of a passionless business than a vehicle for art. I get it, you get older and you need to start thinking about financial security, especially if you have kids. But it still sucks to see these once young and hungry artists shilling themselves out and going through the motions on stage.

You honestly can go through the motions and still produce better shit than this [as in battles] imo

A band will always end up experimenting with new stuff and trying different things (minus Dropkick Murphys), sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. In the case of In Flames, they probably took it to an extreme, but who knows, maybe they feel more confortable playing the new shit now, maybe they think it's actually better.
