This is better than Pornogrphy because it sounds like Robert truly, effortlessly means it here - Pornography was them still "trying" to be dark and singing about shit they read about rather than experienced first-hand, and it just gets eye-rollingly melodramatic. This, however, came out long after they lightened up & started having some fun again, and even though it's not exactly a happy record, it's not exhaustively gloomy like Porno and what's more, is actually beautiful & moving

the climax of Plainsong is the biggest ejaculation; the twinkles and sparkles and so intense as to be almost visual, so moving.
idk porno feels like people scraping the barrel of misery for referents to their own psych. condition, which feels honest and not overwrought to me; disintegration, when despondence has become ingrained, feels like the depressing, brilliant, logical progression. love 'em equally.
