Reminds me "Filthpig" from Ministry, doom indus metal. Not a bad thing. Quite good but not great.

Seen a lot of talk about how this album doesn't have that essential demiurge or bleed type track but to me Phantoms is exactly that

And still wikipedia won't tag the album as such into the industrial metal genre.

First and last full song are the ones that actually try to do that in some way, but still

Theres some really good tracks forsure. ligature marks,phantoms,cog,armies,kaleidoscope.... theres not a all time great meshuggah track tho like every other album of theres has imo.

The thing with this album for me is they didnt really tinker with their songwriting at all either. Like every meshuggah album before this has it's own identity this one really doesn't to my ears. I think they played it a bit to safe here. It sounds like a few of their albums thrown into a blender instead of its own album. On a bad day I kinda just see this album as a rehash but never topping the albums it borrowed from.

But Em, haven't they been doing that for a while now? I remember these kinds of comments from the obZen-era onward. As in: people said obZen was an amalgamation of what came before, Koloss was an overview of what came before, The Violent Sleep was a throwback to what happened before.

Yes it is. Also those records are amazing so I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing (nor a true thing!).

I don't hear that no. Obzen koloss and violent sleep all have their own uniqueness to them I dont think this one does as much. Of course meshuggah are going to sound like meshuggah but I can single out each album before this having it's own finger print. I cant really do that with this one as much it just sounds like another meshuggah album

Disagree, personally, this one is way more melodic than everything since C33, I think it has about as much of a clear identity as the last three before it.
