On paper they have all the elements of a band I'd love but something about the way they put it together always leaves me wanting more. Probably my favorite thing from them is the second disc of Precambrian. I like some of the tunes on Pelagial as well. Maybe I'll revisit their discography at some point.

I think I'll go back to Pelagial first. I remember it having a pretty cool wet atmosphere.

Wake/Lift is definitely worth checking out too, but not until youve graced (hammered) your ears with the Galilaen Satellites first. Ive also got to give Ulcerate more attention i really liked Everything was fire but its been ages and haven't heard much of their other stuff either

Everything is Fire is an easy classic to me. I like it better than the Gorguts and Immo albums that inspired it because of the tinges of post metal influence and because of the way the songs just keep mutating slowly as the riffs evolve by shifting one part of the motif at a time until you wind up in a totally different place. It's really an all time great album. Vermis is good as well, but not the same quality, and then the Destroyers of All is a step again below that one. The later albums have a bigger post metal influence though.

Have you checked out Nero di Marte's album Derivae? Someone in the thread for that album said it sounds like Ulcerate if you switched the death metal to post metal ratio to 3:1 in favor of the latter, which I think is pretty spot on. They bring a similar type of atonal, asymmetrical death metal riffing but then meld it into a more Neurosis influenced post metal package. Really great stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lU5inZpjgE

Wake/Lift took its fair share of listens before it clicked with me. All that ambience/drone was hard to digest at first. But now I absolutely love that record.

people used to promote nero di marte as ulcerate with upped post metal a lot when derivae was released and i got super disappointed because it doesn't really sound like ulcerate at all (well, ulcerate hardly even has post metal to begin with) but yeah it's good
