Personally, I very, very, VERY much missed Matt here.

I love Matt, but it's cool he took a backseat so the band could offer something with more textures than their previous work. Also the production here is really top notch.

I agree about the production... It's very clear which makes it super easy to hear how disappointing the music is.

"Has anyone else resequenced this album yet? It's much better if you rip some tracks out imo:"
Here's mine:

This is easily the most contrived they've ever been musically. Album feels more like a victory lap than a natural progression. Tbh I don't see them evolving their sound very much more this late into their career.

Hope you're wrong. Could be them getting a good stretch.

me too dude, easily my favorite band of all time, just seems unrealistic to me, especially since this is the first disappointing album they've released in their entire career, save their s/t, which I don't even really count.

Yea, their last 5 albums are so damn good. This ain't bad, but idk. I can't even bring myself to rate it. I just don't know.
I'm hanging tight for their next one.

Is it though? The National are one of the biggest bands in indie and i feel like that song would fit well in a Breaking Bad episode.
I discovered Reuben and the Dark because of the trailer, good shit. That trailer gave me goosebumps.

Yeah it's not that random, I mean their songs were played all the time on Gossip Girl many years back... ah shit, just admitted to watching that show *hides*.

Anybody see the “Hey Rosey” video?

Almost every time I play a Nation song in the living room, my wife is like "oh, I've heard that on [some random TV drama]." Most recently it was either 'Terrible Love' or 'Sorrow' (I forget which one) that was apparently in Grey's Anatomy.

I shouldn't say 'almost every time'. It's not almost every time. But it's, like, legitimately a quarter of the time.

They can't be on telly more than Sigur Ros, those guys are everywhere, especially nature related stuff. I'm almost shocked when they're not used at this point.
