On top of that I think PG has some runs of songs that have a perfect atmosphere to them - especially 'In the Light' to 'Ten Years Gone', that mystical/mellow run does what III goes for and does it even better.
Houses / Trampled / Kashmir is a really enjoyable back to back trio also.

'this has absolutely no fluff'
'Misty Mountain Hop' and 'Four Sticks' are a step down from the rest for me. Led Zeppelin fans are usually either sick or Stairway or Kashmir...and I'm more a 'sick of Stairway' listener.
Also I prefer the six best songs on PG (The Rover through to In the Light, plus Ten Years gone) to the remaining six songs on this.

Six best songs on III are up there with PG, just a shade behind...Immigrant Song, Friends, Since I've Been Loving, Gallows Pole, Tangerine and That's the Way.
I just think III actually has more fluff, not too into any of the remaining four tunes on that one really.
PG only has three tunes I'm not as into, and that's the last three, though they still have their qualities - they're just the one time I think they might have been trawling abandoned older songs to flesh out a double.

Since I’ve Been Loving You had me believing the Zep legend for a while. Phenomenal song. I’ve yet to be quite as enchanted elsewhere, but I remember thinking it was a lightbulb moment

“I think they might have been trawling abandoned older songs to flesh out a double”
boogie with stu and down by the seaside were recorded during the sessions for this and houses was obviously done a couple years prior to the graffiti sessions. pretty sure half the album was written and/or recorded several years prior to the graffiti sessions.

'pretty sure half the album was written and/or recorded several years prior to the graffiti sessions.'
Yeah, I read a load of stuff about the album recently in Uncut magazine, so that's right, a lot of reworked material on PG - but some of those songs should never have been abandoned and are up to scratch imo.
Something just works for me with PG, I dunno. I like that a song like 'Down By the Seaside' sounds great on a double album like PG, but wouldn't have made sense on their other albums.

Maybe I just like Zeppelin a tiny bit less hippy than on IV - they're decent songs they're just not my favourites what can I say

the sequencing here is top notch. it’s probably the best “flowing” zep album

I'd agree with that, it is their smoothest listen.

They shouldve had a whole album with down by the seaside vibe. Lovely song.

Damn, just listened to this for the first time in years and was BORED OUT OF MY MIND.
Listened to Houses of the Holy immediately after and there's no comparison.
This might be the most overrated album of all time.

Agreed, including "The Battle Of Evermore".

There's 5-8 minutes of interesting stuff on here, including yes evermore and levee (both of which should be 50% shorter, though), and JP's solo in stairway is truly incredible. Album is great, but there's just so much better stuff worth listening to since this has come out.
Rating is inflated because of influence and cultural significance.
