a lot of games couldn't exist without specific graphical advancements. no one is arguing that production has no influence on the music, but it's just about the last thing i care about with music, usually. just like when i play games the graphics are the last thing i care about.

do u need me to quote myself

That short and sweet drum break at 3:05 in LCD. I need more of this in my music.

it's pretty clear where anthracks stands on production honestly, he's like the only dude on this site who loves ithyphallic

honestly i'm with kind of him but only in that i don't mind "bad" production most of the time, but i definitely find it much harder to enjoy music that's overproduced

and then there's your st angers of the world...

That's the thing though, without it in the first place in wouldn't exist. An idea and vision can still exist in music and still be butchered by the production, while without the advancements graphically it wouldn't be a thing in the first place. I agree with the point that graphics are the last thing to care about since I see them as a pre-requisite of a gaming production since it needs it in the first place to come to life (It's art style and design that catches my eye graphically) while I disagree with in terms of production since it can deliver extra detail to an creation already formed.

I mean i know that my self he posts the same thing in every metal thread, but saying you don't care about production is personal taste, saying it doesn't matter at all (it DID matter to the creators of the album btw) is pure ignorance and pretension

"people who care about production are the same people who care about graphics power in video games"

If you think that's true, you grossly misunderstand production choices. This implies that production exists on a linear scale, meaning there are only varying degrees of "good," or not good to good. Totally mischaracterized production with that thinking. Sometimes due to limited resources you end up with a more raw sound (Altars vs Blessed for example), but I would argue and I think most would agree that production is an active choice by the artist to convey their compositions with a particular aesthetic to help fully realize the overall ideas.

Maybe your comparison sounds nice in your head, but in reality, it's at best meaningless and at worst wrong.

There is some truth certainly to graphic choices, like cel shaded or cartoon graphics, being used to convey specific ideas but your one liner doesn't read like that.

Yeah I understand what he's getting at but I do think that was not the best comparison.

Spacesh1p, when you mentioned different grahpical styles like cel shade I think you're onto something. You can easily say the graphics of a game like Boderlands 2 are inferior to whatever CoD or BF that was out at the time, but Boderlands with those kind of graphics wouldn't be quite right, however I don't think it having "modern" looking graphics would have ruined it either.

So yeah, production definitely matters, and can move music up or down a scale of enjoyment to a degree but I think it's extremely rare that production makes an album WAY better or WAY worse. In the end, the music is either good or it's not.

Just my 2½ cents...
