I can't understand how some people associate abundance of melody with mediocrity.

I'm not a religious person, but if there was ever an album where I believed souls were sold to satan to make a perfect album, this is it

melody = christianity therefore it doesn't belong in black metal

Christia religious melodies are just most fun to make fun of for these guys. Churchs also had some bangers but metal made it redundant.

Never listened to this before but Night's Blood popped up on my feed and I'm immediately liking it.
There's bits of this here and there that kind of remind me of really early In Flames / Dark Tranquillity stuff (guitar tone, some of the riffs / leads, phrasing of vocals, etc...)

This is much darker than DT or IF, but I definitely agree with the riffage being similar. Same scene and stuff.

Only release of IF/DT I'd compare this to is Subterranean but even that is stretching it

I mean all of the early Swedish bands have some sort of similarity just based on core sound and area that they come from. This is a black metal album through and through though.
